John William Sterling

 

Union officer

 

John William Sterling was born in either 1826 or 1827 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was a merchant there before the war.

 

On July 22, 1862 he became Captain of the 2nd Connecticut Artillery.

 

He mustered out on Oct. 18, 1864.

 

Sterling died on June 5, 1881, in Bridgeport.
