Redesignated Washington D.C. Defenses on September 7

The Military District of Washington was abolished on September 2. On September 9 Major General Nathaniel Banks took command of  the Washington D.C. Defenses, which consisted of the District of Columbia, Arlington County in Virginia, and adjacent fortifications.
