The 16th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment lost 1 enlisted man killed and 15 enlisted men to disease during its three months service in the Civil War. After the original regiment mustered out another 16th Indiana Regiment was formed for three years service and was assigned to the Western Theater.
