With the creation of the Third Corps on June 1st, A.P. Hill was promoted to Lieutenant General and Corps Commander. William Dorsey Pender and Henry Heth were promoted to Major General in command of their own divisions. Four brigades of the division went to Pender, and two were given to Heth.
