The Army of the Valley commanded by Major General Jubal A. Early fought the Third Battle of Winhester on September 19. It would be the last of many times in the Civil War that Winchester changed hands. Two days later Early also lost the Battle of Fisher’s Hill and was routed up the Valley. it was believed that the Army of the Valley was ended as a military threat, and Sheridan put the Valley to the torch in The Burning. |
