The Army of Northern Virginia under General Robert E. Lee took advantage of Meade sending two army corps to the Western Theater by launching a turning movement around Meade’s flank. But Meade safely pulled back, badly battering two of A.P. Hill’s brigades at Bristoe Station. Lee’s advance stalled and he pulled back to his starting point. He was slowly pursued by Meade, who had to rebuild his railway supply line. |
