Minnesota

United States Regiments & Batteries

Minnesota provided 24,017 men to the Union army in 2 regiments and 2 battlions of cavalry, 1 regiment of heavy artillery, 3 batteries of light artillery, 2 companies of sharpshooters, and 11 regiments of infantry. Almost all fought in the west, but the single regiment of infantry and company of sharpshooters who made their way to the east were among the very best. *
