Battle of Sharpsburg (Antietam)

The battalion was commanded by Major Scott Wilson until he was mortally wounded and captured. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel but never returned to duty.

November The battalion was expanded to regimental size at Fredericksburg, and was designated the 48th Mississippi Infantry Regiment.
