“Naval Battalion”

1863
June 22 Created with six companies for the defense of Richmond under the command of Majors Martin W. Curlin and 1st Lieutenant Robert D. Minor of the Confederate States Navy. Members were from employes of the Navy Yard, Naval Ordnance Works, Rockett’s Navy Yard, and the Richmond & Danville Railroad.
July The battalion mustered around 300 men and was assigned to General G.W.C. Lee’s  Brigade, Department of Richmond.
