May 5 Six companies were organized at Richmond under Lieutenant Colonel Fletcher H. Archer and Major John P. Wilson. Assigned to Armistead’s Brigade and served as heavy artillery along the James River.
1862
May 22 Lieutenant Colonel Archer and Major Wilson were dropped in the army reorganization and Lieutenant William R. Foster of Company B was elected major.
June Major Foster died.
June Mustered 213 men.

September The battalion disbanded, with many of the men transferred to the 53rd Virginia infantry Regiment.
