Wallace Hill was born born in Washington, Ohio between 1838-9. Before the war he was a farmer in Marietta.

When the war broke out Hill joined the 18th Ohio Infantry Regiment, a 3 months unit, as 2nd Lieutenant in Company B.

Between February and March in 1862 Company B became West Virginia Light Artillery, Battery C. Hill was promoted to captain, and commanded the battery at Gettysburg. He mustered out with the battery on June 28, 1865.

Hill died on April 12, 1895 in Sidney, Ohio.
