October-November Eight companies were organized at Troy, New York as the 2nd Regiment Cavalry to serve for three years under the command of Colonel Andrew J. Morrison.

  • Company A was principally recruited at Salem
  • CompanyB at Sandy Creek
  • Company C at Troy, Hoosick Falls, Schenectady, Berlin, Petersburgh and Grafton
  • Company D at Troy, Ogdensburgh, Newburgh, Saugerties and Goshen
  • Company E at Troy, Lowville, Albany and Carthage
  • Company F at Troy, Ballston, Broadalbin, Gloversville and Mayfield
  • Company G at Elmira, Lockport and Troy
  • Company H at Troy, Boonville, Ballston, Schuylerville, Nassau and Pittstown
November 6
  • Company A was mustered in at Salem
  • Company B at Sandy Creek
  • Companies C, D, E, F and H at Troy
November 8 Company G was mustered in at Elmira
November 18 The regiment’s designated was changed by the War Department to 7th New York Cavalry Regiment. But the regiment was never mounted.
November 23 Left New York for Washington, D.C. and duty there until March.
1862
March 31 The 7th New York Cavalry Regiment was mustered out and honorably discharged from service.
