April 20 Company C under the command of Captain Jacob Dorsheimer mustered for three years, the first Pennsylvania company to so volunteer.
May 3 The 16th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment organized at Camp Curtin, Harrisburg under the command of Colonel Thomas A. Ziegle, Lieutenant Colonel George J. Higgins and Major Frank T. Bennett.
