Confederate Armies & Departments in the Eastern Theater

The Army of Northern Virginia under General Robert E. Lee was in defensive lines south of the Rappahannock and Rapidan Rivers. Longstreet’s First Corps was detached from the army. Hood’s and McLaws’ Divisions were transferred by rail to the Western Theater and Pickett’s Division to the defenses around Richmond.
