History of the 12th North Carolina Cavalry Battalion in the Civil War

May 3	The 12th North Carolina Cavalry Battalion was organized at Garysburg from three companies of the 66th North Carolina Partisan Rangers Regiment which had failed in its organization. Major Samuel J. Wheeler was in command. Company A – Northampton County Company B – Bertie County Company C – Northampton County Assigned to District of North Carolina, Department of North Carolina.

January 13-April 29	The Battalion was assigned to Dearing’s Confederate Cavalry Regiment as Companies A-C.
April 17-20	Plymouth Company A
June	Siege of Petersburg
July 11	The battalion was dissolved, with Companies A & B becoming Companies K & I of the 4th North Carolina Cavalry Regiment. Company C became Company G of the 16th North Carolina Cavalry Battalion.
