April 9 The United (Virginia) Artillery was organized from Company E, 41st Virginia Infantry Regiment, under the command of Captain Thomas Kevill. A detachment had served as gunners aboard CSS Virginia in March during its fight with USS Monitor.
April Assigned to Mahone’s Brigade, Huger’s Division, Department of Northern Virginia.
June 21 Designated Company C, 19th Heavy Artillery Battalion.
October 1 Redesignated United Artillery and resumed being an independent battery.

July Assigned to Drewry’s Bluff, Department of Richmond.
