The Sturgis Rifles lost one man who died of disease during the Civil War.

April The Sturgis Rifles were a militia company organized for Federal service at Chicago, Illinois. George McClellan has served with them before the War facilitated their being equipped with the Sharps Rifle. They were equipped, fed for two months and armed with their Sharps Rifles by Chicago businessman Solomon Sturgis
May 6 The company was mustered in under the command Captain James Steel
June 15 Ordered to West Virginia and reported at Parkersburg, Va. Assigned to duty as Bodyguard to Brigadier General George B. McClellan, Commanding Army of West Virginia.
