Companies B and C under Major S. Pierre Remington attacked what they thought were a band of Moseby’s partisans. But it was the advance guard of Stuart’s three brigades of cavalry riding toward Pennsylvania. Major Remington and 18 men escaped, Four enlisted men were killed, Captain Alexander Campbell and 20 enlisted men were seriously wounded and captured, and Lieutenants Dagwell, Hazleton and Holmes and 54 unwounded or lightly wounded enlisted men were captured.
