March 11 Service as garrison in New York Harbor at Forts Hamilton, LaFayette, Wood, Gibson, Richmond and Schuyler
May 27 Moved to Baltimore, Maryland and duty there in the Defenses of Baltimore, Maryland attached to the 8th Corps, Middle Department.
June 19 Companies A & F were detached at Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia.
September 4-5 Company A – Point of Rocks and Berlin
September 7 Company A – Point of Rocks
September 11 The 5th and 6th New York Heavy Artillery Battalions were mustered in at Sackett’s Harbor, New York.
September 12-15 Companies A & F – Defense of Harper’s Ferry

September 14 Companies A & F – Bolivar Heights
September 15 Companies A & F Surrendered with Harper’s Ferry garrison

The 5th New York Heavy Artillery Battalion (3rd Battalion Black River Heavy Artillery) was assigned to the regiment as 3rd Battalion as Companies I, K, L & M.
