June Organized from detachments of the 8th New York Militia and 29th New York Infantry Regiment, most of the men coming from Company H of the 29th and commanded by that company’s Captain Charles Bookwood. Attached to Blenker’s Brigade, Miles’ Division, McDowell’s Army of Northeast Virginia. The guns were left from Varian’s Battery, the artillery company of the 8th Militia whose term had expired.
July 16-21 Advance on Manassas, Va.
July 21 Battle of Bull Run
August 16 Battery reorganized at Washington and mustered in as 2nd New York Independent Battery.
