July 2 The 4th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment mustered in 1.058 men under the command of Colonal Halbert Paine.
July 15-22 Moved to Baltimore, Md. Attached to Dix’s Division, Baltimore, Md. to guard railroad near Baltimore
November 14-22 Expedition to eastern shore of Maryland.

December-February Duty at Baltimore
February 19 Moved to Fortress Monroe, Va., then sailed on Steamer Constitution for Ship Island, Miss., and the capture of New Orleans. Spent remainder of service in the Western Theater.

August Redesignated 4th Wisconsin Cavalry Regiment
