May 15	The 20th Georgia Cavalry Battalion was organized with seven companies under command of Lieutenant Colonel John M. Millen: Company A – Captain Moses J. Smith Company B – Captain William G. Thompson Company C – Captain J. G. Cress Company D – Captain William A. Lane Company E – Captain A. J. Love Company F – Captain J. B. Peacock
June	Assigned to the Military District of Georgia, Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

May	Moved to Virginia and assigned to Young’s Brigade, Hampton’s-Butler’s Division, Cavalry Corps, Army of Northern Virginia
May 5-6	Battle of the Wilderness
May 8-21	Battle of Spotsylvania Court House
May 23-26	Battle of North Anna
May 28	Battle of Haw’s Shop
June 1-3	Battle of Cold Harbor
June	Siege of Petersburg
October 25	The battalion was broken up. Companies A, C & D became part of the 8th Georgia Cavalry Regiment, Companies E, F & G went to the 10th Georgia Cavalry Regiment, and Company B to the Jeff Davis (Mississippi) Legion.
