Commanded by Major General Thomas J. Jackson
Jackson’s old brigade and the Rockbridge artillery were transferred from Johnston’s army at Manassas to bolster the three week brigades of infantry (each of only about 500 men) at Winchester. Several artillery units were created from infantry companies.
