September 18 Companies D, E, G and K left New York under orders to join Army of the Potomac before Petersburg, Virginia.

November 8 Colonel Hayt died of congestion of the brain at City Point, Virginia.
December 2 Joseph G. Townsend mustered in as major.
December 7-12 Warren’s Raid on Weldon Railroad
December 12 Private Ezra Roberts of Company E was “killed by cars” at City Point, Virginia.
December 15 Co. K transferred to the 15th New York Engineers and a new Company K was assigned. Attached to 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 5th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac
December 31 John J. Coppinger was commissioned colonel, but not mustered. His commission was revoked.

January 11 Captain Burrage Rice of Company C was killed near Petersburg.
January 25 Lieutenant Colonel Burr was promoted to colonel and Major Joseph Townsend to lieutenant colonel.
