Organized at Camp Chase, Ohio under the command of Colonel Andrew Legg. It was one of the “Hundred Days Men regiments” intended for short term rear echelon duties in the summer of 1864. | |
May 11 | Mustered in and left State for Cumberland, Md. |
May-June | Assigned to duty as railroad guard on Baltimore & Ohio Railroad at North Mountain, Opequan Station and Martinsburg. A portion of the regiment was captured at North Mountain after five hours resistance against overwhelming force and sent to Confederate prison camps. Only about half these men survived. |
