September 13 Although authorized to be a regiment only a battalion of four companies were recruited. It was organized under the command of Major W. S. Rowland at Rochester, New York, beginning with the consolidation of the 6th Company Sharpshooters commanded by Captain Abijah C. Gray.
September 12 7th Company Sharpshooters organized at Jamestown under the command of Captain Clinton Perry.
1863
January 8th Company Sharpshooters organized at Staten Island under the command of Captain John B. McDonald, and 9th Company Sharpshooters organized at Staten Island for nine months’ service under the command of First Lieutenant Warren Blinn.
