The Corps was heavily engaged in the Battle of Cedar Mountain on August 9. After the battle the brigade structure was reorganized, with the First Division’s Second Brigade moved to become the Second Division’s First Brigade, and the Second Division’s First and Second Brigades being renumberd to Second and Third Brigades.
