United States Army > Army of the Potomac
< to May • June 1863 • to July >
Commanded by:
Major General John F. Reynolds (assigned temporary command of Army’s Left Wing 6/30)
Major General Abner Doubleday
As the 1st Corps moved north in pursuit of Lee on his invasion of Pennsylvania two brigades were dissolved in the 1st Division as regiments mustered out at the end of their terms. Stannard’s brigade of Vermont regiments from the Washington defences was attached to the 3rd Division, although it would not physically join the Corps until July 1. On June 30 General Reynolds was given command of the left wing of the Army of the Potomac, consisting of the 1st and 11th Corps. General Doubleday took temporary command of the 1st Corps, although Reynolds still accompanied the lead division.
