Confederate States Army • Hood’s and McLaws’ Divisions
< to December • January 1864 • to February >
Lieutenant General James Longstreet
Lafayette McLaws was removed from command by Longstreet for his actions at Knoxville in November 1863. Although his court martial sentence had been overturned and he had been ordered back to his division Lee would not permit his return to the army, and McLaws was transferred elsewhere. Kershaw would be temporary commander of the division as senior brigadier until promoted to permanent command in June.
