The artillery battalions that had been attached to the infantry divisions were reassigned to the corps reserve artillery. Hays’ and Hoke’s Brigades of Early’s Division lost a large number of men, mostly captured, in the Rappahannock Bridge Salient on November 7.

*Note: The Louisiana Guard Artillery was overrun in a night attack at Rappahannock Station on November 7. 41 officers and enlisted men were captured and the battery lost all four of its guns. The survivors were sent to Richmond to man artillery in its defenses.
