Heth’s Division – Major General Henry Heth
James Archer returned from being a Union prisoner since Gettysburg. At first he was ordered to Tennessee, but due to his health (poor even before his imprisonment) he resumed command of his old brigade, now combined with Walker’s Brigade. Birkett Fry had been in command as senior colonel and then as Brigadier General, and was transferred to North Carolina.
