Confederate States Army

< to December January 1862to February >

Commanded by General Joseph Edward Johnston

Potomac District – General Pierre G.T. Beauregard
(transferred to Western Theater 1/30)

Beauregard had never really accepted the merger of his army into Johnston’s at the Battle of Manassas. It was said said that while he was second in command of the army he was always trying to be commander in chief of part of the army. The solution was to send him away to his own command.
