Confederate States Army Army of Northern Virginia

< to June •  July 1863to August >

Lieutenant General Richard Ewell

The Second Corps took more than 20,000 men into battle at Gettysburg and lost about 32% casualties in fighting north of town on the first day and around East Cemetery Hill and Culp’s Hill on the second and third. Still, the corps was the least damaged of Lee’s army, and acted as rearguard on the retreat to Virginia.
