Major General James Longstreet

The two halves of Longtsreet’s old division, temporarily formed as divisions under Kemper and Wilcox at Second Manassas, were merged into Jones’ and Anderson’s Divisions. McLaws’ and Walker’s Divisions joined from the Richmond area.

McLaws’ Division – Major General Lafayette McLaws

The division was moved from the Richmond area to join Lee’s main army at the beginning of the Maryland Campaign. It was sent to aid in the capture of Herpers Ferry, where part of the division attacked south to seize Maryland Heights while another part held Crmpron’s Gap against a Uninon assault from the east. It then moved to Sharpsburg, where it helped stop Sedgwick’s attack.

Two brigades from Theophilus Holmes’ broken up division in Richmond were formed into a temporary division under senior brigade commander John G. Walker. Although assigned to Longstreet, they first assisted Jackson’s Command in the capture of Harpers Ferry, where the division occupied Loudon Heights in the encirclement of the city.
