Confederate States Army * Army of Northern Virginia
< to June • July 1862 • to August >
Major General James Longstreet
The period between the Peninsula Campaign and the Second Manassas Campaign saw major reorganization in Longstreet’s Command. A.P. Hill’s Division was transferred to Jackson’s Command to avoid the bad blood that had developed between Longstreet and Hill. In exchange Huger’s and Jones’ Divisions were added. Huger was removed from command and replaced by Richard Anderson, who had been commanding Longstreet’s old division as senior brigade commander. Longstreet’s old division was then split into two divisions under its next two senior brigade commanders, Kemper and Wilcox.
